Greetings! It pleases me immensely that you have sought out the Conservation Leaders for Tomorrow web site. CLFT offers a unique experience for students and instructors alike to discuss and potentially participate in hunting in an environment that is carefully designed to convey hunting’s rich history, culture and important conservation connections.
It is important to reiterate that the goal of CLFT is not to recruit new hunters; its goal is to provide an opportunity for students majoring in one of the natural resource management field, and who are not familiar with hunting, to get a close and careful look at its complex motivations, ethical considerations, management implications and benefits to long-term conservation efforts.
We know that understanding these dimensions of recreational hunting and harvest management will make students more successful in their careers as natural resource managers and make the conservation programs that they work on more effective. Besides, its fun!
The program is designed to optimize one-on-one student contact and provide important hands-on training. The instructors are a select group of professional managers who have made major contributions to wildlife conservation, and who happen to be passionate about hunting. They know very well the roles that hunting and hunters have played in conservation and, informally and interactively, they will share that understanding and their knowledge and experience. And did I mention that CLFT is fun!.
Please let me know if you are interested in participating in a CLFT program, either as a student or an instructor. Our current plans are to expand the program as rapidly as possible. However, we are experiencing some growing pains, so please bear with us.
Thanks for you interest, and I hope to hear from you.
